Ehiem 2262

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I backflush once a week when I do my 50% wc and have never noticed a reduction in flow. This may be because its very gradual. When I opened my 2260 after about six months recently I was disgusted at the insides, the bio section was ok but the floss was filthy. I am going to change it to sponge top layer to help this.

I'm not sure the syphon action provides enough flow to back flush effectively if not performed regularly. I'm assuming you all close your intake valve when backflushing?

To check flow perform a timed bucket test I.e measure time to fill a 5g bucket and use this to calculate your flow in gph

Maybe youe media is set up wrong insode.
I use the following
2-3 inch of mech pro at bottom
Then about 2 inch of effix (green wiry mesh) then about 12-14 L of sub pro on top ...
NO filter floss or polishing pads on top...
Works a treat. .
I have :
One 2260
One 2262
One pro 3
One fx5

And rotate the cleaning of all the canisters.
Also have two internal eheim 2252s running which do most of the mechanical cleaning in my tank.
Im quite heavily stocked in 6x3x2

well i have about the same as your setup.. eheim mech, course sponge, bag of crush coral and a bag of ammonia chip side by side, one layer of filter floss, 4 liters of eheim substrat pro, last is a fold in half filter floss again... i like my water clean.. :D

I have it setup the same way with: Mech Pro, Effix, Seachem Pond Matrix and Wal-Mart Pillow batting. I'm just going to change it more often than I did before is all. I let it go as long as I did to really test a lot of reading on the net that I see about the Eheim's don't need to be cleaned as often as others. I know it does play a big part into the size of the tank and the amount of fish waste in the tank, however for my setup, 6 months is way to long. Not saying this will be to long for everyone :)

This is what I'm going to do....I've tried sumps in the past and didn't like them. I'll get my 2nd 2262 shortly to replace the xp3 that is on it also right now.

Interesting. My sump on my 300 gallon requires about 2 minutes a week maintenance to change the socks. I've never run a tank that requires less maintenance ....

Hi, Paul! Paulbearer!

Where do you buy your filters for the 2262? I have a brand, new one, and am at a loss as where to purchase the fine and coarse fliters. I bought some for a 2217 in a fish store, which the guy said were close, but they're about the third of the size I need. I have two large, 11 year old Red Eared Sliders.

I bought my media on amazon to fill the filter.
