Just use some sand paper to get the paint off. It's pretty quick and easy that way. Btw if your looking for plant suggestions for a mbuna tank I would recommend most any anubias or fern as they are pretty hard to kill. Another good set of options could be some jungle val or maybe some dwarf sag. Both will carpet over time and help to create a sense of depth with their similar appearance yet different max heights. Both also grow insanely fast compaired to any anubias or fern.

I actually converted it from a mbuna tank to a planted tank.
I agree on the Anubias and ferns, even my scuds have trouble with them.
I should try dwarf sag. My Val is only starting to take off.
I spent a number of years breeding this species, including F1 offspring (the first in Canada) , several domestic strains (some from Germany), and the orange L. caeruleus variant from Ruarwe. I kept them and bred them in various sized tanks, from 30 gallons to 125 gallon tanks, and I agree with the statement above. 1 M, and 4-5 F, in a 40 gallon breeder would be a solid plan that will lead to overall success with minimal stress/aggression. Well if ya want to propagate that val that's pretty easy. Just take a pair of scissors and cut the runners off from the main plant. This encourages the plant to throw out more runners and encourages the runners into a faster growth stage to make themselves into fully formed plants of their own. Just got to look for the cord connecting them together, cut that then they go into overdrive on growth. Same also works for dwarf sag since it's essentially just the same as val. Also if ya don't cut the cords they tend to grow in straight lines along the glass of the tank, and atleast imo they don't look as nice when spread out like that. Another way to get around the straight lines they make, without cutting the plant, is to just put a ring around where ya want it to grow at so the runners can't escape the ring and are then forced to grow in allot tighter of a grouping.
