I was wondering what kind of electric bill everyone deals with. Mine was over $300. 3 fx5 2 fluval 405 and 2 sumps and 6 heaters.
2 180 gallon
1 100 gallon
Been chaging over to ac110, got rid one of the 180, Replaced it with a 135. down to one fx5.
Lowerd it to just under $200.
does this sound normal?
Guess I should mention the 180 and the 100 are in a well insulated garrage.

I know people who spend way more than that with that many tanks.
I think because we get our power from Diablo (nuclear) our rates are way low.
rare do we hit $100 for the entire house and 4 six foot tanks.

Change to cichlids from Uruguay and you won't need heaters.
can even put them outside year round here in california.
I think the heaters take up more energy than the filters.

I have 9 powerheads, 2 Rena XP3 cannister filters, 3 Aquaclear 110 HOBs, 1 Penguin 330 HOB, 4 heaters. My electric bill avearge charge is about $130.00 a month. I live in California where rates are the highest in the nation.

I Thought so. The fxs use 3 times the power than the ac 110. I was thinking it might be those Heaters.
Tr6 I will give up My wife before My Fronts. But I may consildate and thin out.

one FX5 uses about 4x as much power as a single AC110.

FX5 is 50w

AC110 is only 12w.

so if your rates are very expensive, this helps. but keep in mind how much media capacity you lose when switching..after all, we are comparing apples to oranges here.

having said that, a few 250w heaters will obviously use tons power power than all your filters put together even if they only run a few hours a day..the heaters consume most of the power.

So all your fish stuff is on a separate meter and that is your bill?
