My electric bill is out of control  ! In the past 2 months I've added 3 more water filters and three 150 to 200 watt heaters. Please let me know if you think or know for a fact, = if there is a brand of aquatic electrical supplies that are more "energy efficient" than others? Also, does the type or brand of 'multiple plug-in' for the electrical outlet make any difference? I've got all of my stuff plugged into : PHILIPS General purpose, 1 into 6 outlet w/15 amp circuit breaker. My heaters are AQUEON and water filters are AQUEON Quiet flow 30 power filters. (Bought these beacuse they were about $30 a piece, and I have rebates for $10 for each one.) Please share your knowledge! TIA :D. I'm a noob as far as aquariums go.

i don't have any official info to share but i know your heaters should have limited impact on your electricity bill. they shouldn't be running all the time, especially at this time of year.

What kind of increase in you electric bill are you talking about? Are you sure it's not just the rate per kilo-watt hour that has increased? I know in my area there was an increase on Jan 1 for electricity.

You stated you have 3 filters running. Maybe running 1 bigger filter would be more energy efficient? Just a thought.

That would only work if he had just one tank :)

I think its was about 2 dollars a month to run a ac 110 or less maybe 1.50. I can't remember I did the math and a heater shouldn't even be that much regardless of wattage because it runs maybe 1/8 the time ya know. I think a whole 100 gallon-200 gallon tank should be about 5-10 dollars a month with light heater and filter. 10 assuming your light is on 24/7 and your heater works real hard. You could conceivably optimized if you have multiple tanks by plumbing them all onto one sump or something like that.

u haven't given enough info as to the changes u have made and the changes in ur bill. plus u need to know how much they charge you per kilowatt hour.
amps x volts = watts
watts/1000 = kilowatts
kilowatts x hours of usage (24hr x 30day would be a months worth of usage) x cost of kilowatt/hour = how more u spend a month on that heater, filter, what ever.
so for me a 150 watt pump will cost about $17 dollars a month to run 24/7.

Didn't notice that mentioned in the OP's post. Time to brake down/consolidate tanks?

again i hate to speak for other people but SHE has multiple tanks, some small, some big

Ok, thanks. I've already been correct on the multiple tanks. Are you correcting me on "she"? I don't believe I used "he" or "she" in any of my posts.

eheim cans, AC hang on backs and Jager heaters are probably your best best for getting a more effecient power savings.
Also getting foam insulating board and wrapping your back and whatever sides/ sump with it will also help a lot on keeping the heat in.

And a daylight color bulb (6700k) especially in t5 form will save mass amounts of power on lights as on a 4ft they are only 28w vs 54 for a t5HO like a colormax which dont get near as bright.
Theres also the LED light option.

Ofcourse changing all this stuff over could cost you a pretty penny but eventually save in the long run if your power bill per KW/h is really high
