ELECTRIC BILL SKY ROCKETS !

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Went up almost $200. per mo! ballinouttacntrol is correct, I've got multiple tanks. CANNOT consolidate, as I have fresh and brackish fish. And even then, I'm positive my goby dragons, cichlids, bumble bee gobies, corys, mollys, moore, betas, tetras, dwarf african frogs, and my newest addition of a 2" YoYo loach, would NEVER get along, all in the same tank - even if water types were the same.:grinno: And a few months ago, on somebody else's thread, I told them to put the insulation around their tank. I use : CELLOFOAM, POLY PANEL, EPS INSULATION, 3/4" thick. I use hot glue to put it together, and I have my 'back ground scene' on there too. I only have front of aquarium for viewing. And at night after 'lights out', I have the same material propped up against the fronts of tanks also.

We live in an extremely old, piece of cr*p building. It was originally a store, but then somebody who didn't know their b*tt from a hole in the ground, divided it into 5 apartments! I really think that someone elses utilities or furnice is on our electrical box in the basement. The apartment above our living room was empty until mid January. And after it became rented is when our bill went way up! But my tanks are being blamed for it.:screwy: Right now I have 7 tanks with water filters, 6 have heaters, 5 have lights. I only have lights on 6 to 8 hours a day, the planted tanks are near windows getting sunshine. This is really up-setting me! I had planned on getting a nice HUGE tank and stand with tax $$$! And now I cannot convince my husband that my fish are not costing us an arm and a leg every day! ***Please excuse me....... while I get my Snoopy pillow and scream into it.................................................................;):chillpill:I feel a bit better now...................I think ! ?

yeah, i think most of us agree it's not your tanks that cost a 200 bucks hike in your utility bill. sorry, that's rough

diznam. You must have MTS bad.

Somethings not adding up here. It's not your fish tanks that made the bill go up $200. Unless you have 3000W of HID lighting running 24/7. Did the A/C get turned on earlier this year?

get a meter and check each of your tanks and take it to the manager?

If the bill went up when the tenets above you moved in... I woudln't be surprized if your right. 200$ is less then what we pay for our electric.. and ntop of the tanks we run the cpu pretty muhc 24/7 I'm horrible about turning lights off... ect...

As suggested I would sit down and seriousely do the math... because I doubt it's your electrical use alone thats the issue.
