Electric Blue carpintis??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hmmm taking anouther look it looks like a very colorful cyanoguttatus but they don''t get red like that and when they do they grow out of it i'd say the fish pictured is a red texas that has alot of spangles (awesome looking fish by the way)

My cameraphone is not a good camera, this guy was very responsive followed me from side to side of tank. The lfs worker put his hand in and the fish was not scared at all and bit him.

Seems it is a Herichthys carpintis with some nice coloring. I am still debating whether to pick this guy up, its located in Rhode Island. I actually am receiving some HRP's from FishFarm next week so I really dont have the room, but will probably give up the location, just want to think it over, haha.

Heres another pic that looks similar colorwise.

This is where the fish is. Even if you are not interested in the fish and are close to this place i recommend you go there, they have everything from baby alligators, snakes, turtles, lizards, Pirahna, EBJD's, and a good selection of cichlids, there supplies are on the expensive side though. There is a cage way in the back of the store where they have 2 large alligators, pretty interesting to see. If someone pics this guy up before i change my mind please post good pics of him.:D

Looks like a hybrid to me. The lateral line coloration and background color are off for it to be a pure carpintis. Reading the title, I assumed it would be the "Escondido" variant of carpintis.

Hello, I was at a lfs today and they had a fish that wasnt labeled, it looked like a texas to me at first. It was bluish bodied with red fins, very nice looking fish. I asked the worker at the store and he said it was a Electric Blue Carpintis and it was $29.99 @ about 4-5inches.

First question, is there such a thing as a Electric Blue Carpintis?
Is this a reasonable price for this fish?
How aggressive are these guys and would he work in my tank(see stock below)

He looked like this guy, except more blue in the body and deeper red in fins.
I took pic with my camera phone but of course it looked like crap.

Thanks for the help.

Its a hybrid, similar to the "super red texas". Nice pet fish, but they won't breed true and/or could be sterile.

You can get carpinte of a couple different strains, escondido for example, that look like that without the red- still a gorgeous fish.
