I'm completely captivated by the Electric Blue Jack Dempsey. Do they go ok with Bichir? Also, would a Bichir and a EBJD fit well in a 75 gallon tank? The Bichir will be either Senegal or Delhezi. Also, all the pictures I've seen of the EBJD are BRIGHT blue, do they retain this coloration into adulthood? Or does it fade?

EBJD are fragile fish, water should be kept pristine and stable to keep them long term successfully, no ideal on bichir question. long as kept well there colors are amazing. best in adult life.

EBJD are a genetic mutation, that being said they have all the consequences that come with it. even with the best kept they can still just drop dead. there are allot kept long term and bread, usually with a regular JD on hopes a few will have the mutation, or dominate EB trait, with out the deficiencies that 2 EB mates would pass on.

To build on that the reason is because of all the recessive breeding they had to do to breed them like this, they became genetically unstable and thus more susceptible to disease, it's sad really when people will do to these animals just so they look more visually appealing to us :( so I would only recommend doing one if you are an expert and if you are then I would highly recommend one because you may be saving it from some amateur that would buy it for their 20 gallon and never do water changes probably killing it in a week. Sorry to get so negative there just wanted to give you some background.

Also you have better chances raising it by itself. I went through 2 ebjd juvies before on my 3rd one I raised it in a 10 gallon all by himself. It's been 4 months now and he's doing great. I did miss a water change and during that time he got ick. Theater him for a week and he recovered nice. Try not to over feed them. Listed to people on here. They have a lot of experiance with ebjd. I finally took someone advice on here and so far so good.

I would have a 75 gallon and would be willing to raise it solo. However, I really don't want to be one of those amateurs who kills their fish. My previous experience is just goldfish, bettas, and an Oscar. I think I'll pass for now, even though I REALLY want one. Maybe when I'm more experienced :)
