Electric Blue Jack Dempsey

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My girlfriend bought a giant ship decor that she put in the middle of the tank. Surprisingly, he fits into it by sort of twisting his body to get into the hole. He has taken it over and I don't see him as often now because he likes to stay in there. I went to the store that he originally came from and they had a bunch of them that were around 1 inch and very bright blue. I'm wondering if they loose some of that electric blue as they get bigger.

that's a really good looking Dempsey.

I'm looking to start an EBJD breeding setup in the next 6 months - a year, I'm just a sucker for punishment like that. I've always wanted a really great EBJD, and I've always been obsessed with breeding (I blame Pokemon as a child) it's just too bad the recessive blue gene is a b*tch to deal with.

From what I read, if you get pass the 3 inch mark then you're good. The pet store that this guy came from sells them for 24 dollars each and they are about an inch. The guy that I bought this fish from fed him only blood worms. It's been super difficult to get him to eat anything else. He will eat some brine shrimp sometimes but he will skip meals and wait for blood worms.

3" is also the safety mark I've heard about - before that they're frail and could basically drop dead any time.

Super surprised they never weaned your fish onto pellets before they're putting them out for sale, 100% blood worm diet is crazy! Good luck getting him switched over. :/

I bought it from a guy on craigslist that bought it from that fish store. I wanted another one so I asked him where he had originally bought it and it was at a popular fish store in town. That guy fed the fish just blood worms, not the fish store. He even gave me a blood worm lunch box with the fish. I've tried all kinds of different pellets/flakes and the fish rejects them all. The fish will go days without eating but when I put in the blood worm, it's gone in seconds.

I got the idea from one of the most knowledgeable members on this forum. Have you tried feeding him shrimp, mussels, tilapia, anything like that either?
