Depends on how fast they grow but the very moment i can tell the coloration difference in the fry, i have to separate them. May take a month to 7 weeks. The reason for separation is because, even though its a normal naturally occurring color, the mother will eat the blue babies to avoid attracting predators that would eat the entire fry batch. Even if the mother wont eat them, the shy nature blues have would cause starvation because they wouldn't compete for food as aggressively as their normal color counterparts.

Thanks! This is definitely a big batch i have. I've had Honduran Red Points breed on me and the batch was half the size of this one.

Nice pair congrats...I have a 5 inch Electric Blue I'm looking for a female blue gene for...never seen one for sale at any of my lms's...

wow congradulations.. more pics when you can.. and updates

Trick is to seperate the eb fry from the bg fry. If not the eb fry will all be bullied to death. I raised a few batches, you will be able to tell which is which in about two weeks or so. Until then feed live brine or daphnia fry to maximize growth and nutrition.

I have a ton of blue gened jacks. I have 5 more EBJDs im currently raising in a tank with a bunch of BGJDs hoping a few will pair up. BTW I'm surprised you haven't found any blue gened in your area. There are tons of breeders in cali.

Yeah, I've been feeding them powdered cichlid crisps and hikari pellets. I tried the brine shrimp thing but I didn't really like it. Although these little guys have no trouble swimming into the powder food cloud i make with the turkey baster.
