i picked up a lil 3 incher just out of pure curiosity and it def sent a good jolt up my arm but than other times it was only like a nine volt battery i think they can control the intensity of it

I've had 2 and both in a semi to aggressive tank mates. It was safe for over a year. Whatever fish decides to fight with it becomes paralayzed. Lost my flameback and my losiell like that. Then they were both able to jump the tank And I didn't find them in time. Awesome wet pet for a solo tank. Mine was 8+ and made me buckle my knees if he shocked me

I was gona say no one mentioned how they shock tankmates. If other tankmates are in their face or space and they feel threatened they will shock the tankmates and in chances are kill some tankmates in the process. It's good that you're keeping it alone. They are not the fastest growing cats either so in your case you should be fine. Nice pick up and happy fish keeping.

Crazy to hear there sensitive with water...in my experience id say an electric cat could survive just fine in a toilet bowl :) they are commonly found in muddy back water and stagnet pools in the wild. Ive had mine for 3 yrs now and hes been moved around plenty times over the years. He is 8"-12" and lives with a 6" clown knife in a 55 gal no prob. Never been shocked or tried to grab him. Hes also lived with an erray of different fish. Only fish hes ever killed was another electric cat. They are more of a nusiance than anything due to their electicity. Ive tried to sell mine many times with no avail. I even housed him for 6-8 months in an acrylic 13 gal sphere with no filtration or oxygen. Didnt care at all lol...cruel maybe but these living turds are tough as nails. Anyone know if they shock the water or just if you touch them?
