Electric vs Regular blue acara

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, they are pretty peaceful, but territorial. Tetras, barbs, small catfish, and smaller cichlids would work. I had an adult EBA with an oto before.
Do you think they would bother Amazon puffers or would they stay out of each other’s way?

If you can get your hands on male Nannacara anomala, they often show an overall blue/turquoise sheen as adults that look similar to electric blue acaras.

There are very few acaras I would keep in a 36 gallon tank with other fish. A single one might work but a pair would take over and likely torture any other tank mates you had.

In my experience they both get to the same size but the EBA is certainly more peaceful. Saying that the natural ones aren’t particularly mean anyway.
I thinks it’s pushing it a bit but you could get a payin a 36G, I’m currently considering a pair of natural ones for a 40G with some live bearers.

Ik my pair ended up surprising me last night with a batch of eggs when I came home. Pretty sure they are infertile tho, about half are gone and there's quite a few of em that are white now.

The biggest surprise to me tho was how chill these fish are with their tank mates. They are currently in my 60g tall with 2 2-2½in Trimac x Flowerhorns and a single texas cichlid that's about 3in. The acara's are 1 EBA that is about 3in and a regular Blue Acara at about 3.5in, not entirely sure who is what gender yet. But these fish are just so chill compaired to when I bred FH's and convicts. These fish rarely ever actually bite their tank mates from my experience. Just a lil bit of chasing here and there when they get too close for comfort. I'll add a pic of em later for ya guys to see when I get back home.

With all the naturally colored Electric Blue cichlids available that have been tested over time, by "survival of the fittest" evolution, the idea of creating what could be, genetically blue colored, but immune compromised systems and lack of robust health a little incongruous.
Cichlids such as Scianochromis fryeri or Nimbochromis livingstoni, would seem to fit that bill without having to deal with the health issues common with the line bred variants .
