I have one 500 with a 500 watt heater, 3 FX5's, 1 MarineLand 360 with a UVFilter, 6 power jets, a huge air pump topower two 8” air stones, two 36" lights which stay on 24/7, 265 with 2Marineland 360s, two 300 watt heaters, two 36" lights that stay on 50/50,125 with 2 HOB filters and 1 300 watt heater, 1 36" light on 50/50, a 125salt with 1 Marineland 360, Protein Skimmer, 1 power jet and two 250 wattheater and the lights are on 50/50.
I live in a 2 bedroom apartment, don’t have the heat or ac on and when its on its regulated, I changed allmy light bulbs to I think 10-13 watt bulbs down from 65 watt bulbs and I onlyrun one 10-13 watt bulb in each bathroom vs. six 65 watt bulbs running all atonce, every light bulb in my apt was changed to the 10-13 watt, the cheapo kindfrom Wal-Mart, had the apt door resealed with new weather stripping and I havemy bay windows covered with a survival blanket, if you don’t know what that is,it looks like tinfoil.
I’m anal about leaving lights on when they aren’t needed. If I’m not in theroom, or even if I leave the room for just a few minutes the lights go off.
I’m thinking about switching to LED lights for my tanks as that will bringthe cost down some as well.
I don’t keep the microwave, can opener, box fan plugged in 24/7, only when Ineed it. The laptop is always on as well as the monitor, printer, and the TVstays plugged in as well as the laptop it’s connected too and docking station.
I also don’t use hot water to wash clothes, cold only, and I turned down thehot water heater and wrapped a water heater blanket around the water heaterwhich keeps the water hotter, longer. I also hand wash my dishes, etc. since it’sjust me, I do have a dish washer but I save a little bit of money by handwashing.
I have also been doing 250 gallon a day, each and every day, water changesfor almost 2 months now. Now that I have that issue corrected, my sewer billwill go down and same with water usage since I use cold water to remove tankwater and both hot and cold to fill.
Also have one of those new HD washing machines that use like a few gallonsof water Vs. the old version that almost fills it completely. Just need to getan energy efficient dryer and I will be good to go.
Also installed low flow shower heads, it’s crazy low but better than most ofthe cheap motel showers.
My bill used to be over $200 a month, highest I remember was like $260, thismonth the bill was $149.
It does take a little bit of money to get this rolling but over time, itwill pay for itself and its well worth it.
I'm with Duke Energy.
