Electricity Bill...Help

That is a crazy high electrical bill. I would definitely look into the possibility of someone stealing your electricity or the power company making a mistake (it happens). Might also try the kill-a-watt thing that was suggested. Something isn't right.

if your bill doubled and all your equipment was running at the previous rate it isn't the equipment. This is assuming that the equipment is functioning properly.

Sounds to me that if the meter man didn't read your meter wrong your neighbors who are doing all the work on there place may be tapping off your unit. I have 2 tanks running( 6 filters, 4 heaters, 4 air pumps, 4 strip lights) I am horrible at shutting off my lights, 3 ac units running all the time not to mention the electricity in my garage for my shop and my bill is only around 300 ish a month. I would defiantly dispute the bill man, sounds kinda fishy to me, no pun intended..lol

Oh man you're getting hosed. It's not your tanks. If it was, your bill would be the same every month because your pumps/filters run 24hrs a day every day. Something else is wrong.

yep someone is definitely stealing your electricity. I've seen it happen before. I run 5 tanks, and never is my bill over 150 in Soflo

It maybe the Smart Meter that the electric company is using. Smart Meter is the type of meter that transmit the data and usage to the company remotely with RF. A lot of people lost jobs over them. No more meter readers. The electric company can remotely shut off the power if they need to. They can also run test on the meter to see if someone is bypassing the meter. All the Smart Meters are interlinked so the output is known for the grid. Mines went up just about double when it got installed. I was warned by other people that had it before me. It calculated the rates differently. Other people I've talked to have the same issue. The people that don't see a difference would be people that don't have anything turned on during the day. They charge a different rate for day time use and night time use. For a fish tank, it is all day use. For people that have hobbies that requires electricity use during the day or elderly people that stay home all day using any electrical appliance, you're screwed.
