Elitist MFKers rant

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yes i agree with you on the whole "why can't they enjoy a "common" fish aka oscar..."
but this hobby is like anything else in this world everyone wants the biggest and the best. it's human nature you cant change that. yes there are alot of things that people do that i don't agree with, & i'll tell them in a nice way so hopefully they'll learn from their mistakes (after all we all make mistakes, thats why were here:duh: ).

most people in the chain stores really don't know much about what they are doing or selling to people. thats not their fault they weren't propely trained/educated on what they are selling. Notice above i said MOST, i've came across a couple who knew alot about the fish.

I can see where CTU2fan is getting at when it comes to keeping wild caught fish. I'm a reptile fan and I have been keeping and breeding different species of lizards and turtles for almost 20 years. It is somewhat looked down upon in the reptile community to keep/purchase wild caught animals for pets. If you're attempting to breed them, then thats another story. Of course reptiles don't produce as many young as most fish so when you take one of them from the wild you can really hurt the population.

I'd rather have a captive bed fish personally. There "minds" know nothing more than a fish tank. Wild caughts once lived in paradise and now are cooped in a tank no matter what the size it is.. Its a hobby, its an obsession and whether a real fish keeper buys it and gives it the best captive life possible is much better than you passing it up and letting the guy with the 29g buy it

wild caught vs. captive is really all in how you look at.. sure you're plucking them from the wild but if there is an over population you might have just saved that stingray from having been speared/tail chopped off and thrown back for the piranhas or your favorite fish might have to be put in a tank and fed a buffet of food rather than been some familys dinner. Just all in how you look at it..

personally I love the diversity on MFK, as long as we don't go too "PC" this forum will be a learning experience for all. All discussions don't have to end up with an agreement......:nilly:

:)

Yes. Very often, disagreements and the discussion that results from them are like fertilizer for the MonsterFishKeeping experience and allows it to grow to monster sized proportions.
