Embassy Aquarium stands??? near disaster!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Metal stands don't look as nice, and they won't insulate sound from filters. Definitely a better choice for a fish room though.

And for the record it takes 4 wks or longer to cycle a tank. You need a source of ammonia and the 'good bacteria' has to grow. You can't cycle a tank by using water from an established tank. Although taking a filter or 2 with the sponge or other media from an established tank will work. The water itself doesn't hold any of the good bacteria.

OMG!!!
Ok here is what I figured out. I had the bottom on top and the top on the bottom. I would feel like a complete idiot, but they are not marked and because I got a business degree instead of engineering, my brain did not decipher this important factoid in the early stages. Big oops but other than the butt pain of a refill and the minor stand repairs, all is well. Here's hoping my tank is on track for speed cycling!
I used TLC. Anybody try this stuff?

wooooooow sorry to hear that. lol kind of funny though im not ganna lie. lol but i really hope every thing works out. I have a 125 also and have been searching craigslist for weeks for a nice oak wood stand mainly for looks. might just stick with the Iron now.

For the record, some of my LFS experts claim that the good bacteria is indeed found in the cycled tank water. I also used the water from the vacuumed gravel, and we know those critters reside there (UGF as well)

Experts claimed the good bacteria is in the water? I'm surprised. The 'good' bacteria is on the substrate, a bit on the sides of the glass, on the decorations and on the filter media. I've never heard of TLC for cycling a tank. There used to be somehing called Bio-Spira, they changed it and call it Tetra (something) safe now. Be very wary of products that claim they cycle a tank for you. Good luck with that though.

"Used" tank water does in fact contain bacteria, but a very minimal amount. Nothing compared to an already running filter. You will still pretty much have to go through another cycle as the tank water probably didn't have that much bacteria in it.

Only time you get a decent amount of bacteria from water is when it's squeezed or passed through old filter media first, and even then they're typically dead.

I have to back up 12Voltman on this...

Topfin made out of real "Plywood"...? I have 2 petsmarts near me and I am in there buying liquids mostly and I have looked at the stands....

I never saw one made out of plywood...

But hey...

I am a life insurance guy and I like it when I am wrong...!

Good luck...

mm

PS/ Metal stands... IMHO... rock!!!!
Damn straight on the metal stands. I swear zenzo's was a piece of art I am hitting him up to help me build one for my monster tank when I go back home :)
As for cycling I reccomend following seachem stabilities directions.
Or use an existing filter and voila
