Emerald Creek Purple Garnet

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
*** Yes, it is how it looks in person. Electrifying ain't it?!?

*** We'll see how the polys react to this purple.

*** Will do when I get home. Only placed 2 out of 3 bags in and It was still cloudy this morning. Didn't rinse it last night. My bad....

Just to note guys/gals. Emerald Creek Garnet from Idaho is widely available. It's actually a Canadian Company in Ontario who is selling this particular garnet (Opti Mineral Co.) The raw products are mined in Idaho. Barton red garnet is mined in India. This is the same stuff name 'Idaho Purple' on Ebay and amazon that are inflated per lb. prices.

Are you sure about this ? The barton 30/40 was the same 30/40 from they garnet guy i was getting it from and he specifically told me their were various mines in idaho the different grains sizes come from different mines in idaho not india

Yes, all red garnet from Barton is mined in India. There's 2 type of labeling on the bags 'Made in USA with Imported Products' & 'Made in India'. Seen it at the Kleen Blast warehouse.

I actually really like the electric purple :) . If you and the polys end up liking it, I wonder if there are easy ways of finding or getting it in Florida. Might try to go for purple instead of red.

Here's a photo of just using a stock 30" stock light. Keep in mind, tank is 26" High. The other photo was my rgb diy led light strips. Which are bright white w/bluish tint.

been wanting to redo my 75g that may be the way I go like the grain wt on it and color

Binge Binge - There's 2 distributors in Ohio. Just a suggestion to all if your location is not one of them. If interested. Just ask your nearest large abrasive company if they carry a purple garnet from idaho and the available mesh sizes. If not, then ask for suggestions on where to get it. Good luck all!

Placed the 3rd 50lb bag in late last night. Still slightly cloudy this morning. Had to dim down my rgb led lights to take this photo.

Note: not sure how polys will adjust to this purple, but suspect it markings will be darker. Since this is real garnet, if looked closely. Their similar to glass, therefore, reflects alot back into the water from my diy rgb led lights.
