EMERGENCY FH all messed up...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sooo, my FH is looking a little better, but still swimming upside down... still using melafix and epsom salt for wounds... her tail fin is good, but all under from tail fin to underbelly is still slightly chewed... How to tell if she is going to recover from this? she is still doing good and eating, is it normal for her to swim upside down until she heals?

a little, just like she was when you pegged her for a female. i will take pics tonight, i have a crappy camera and cant seem to get a good pic.

bonsais tend to look like little fatties. it's possible if her swimming hasn't recovered, her swim bladder could have been damaged.

what if she is permanently upside down... she does swim to bottom to retrieve food, even flipping to go, but its like her buoyancy is jacked up and she cant stay that way. I am thinking of switching her to 30 gallon by herself and see if it promotes some more swimming, maybe some exercise would do the trick. maybe make her stronger. pictures still coming out crappy, she is hiding in top back of tank and i cant get a close good angle. here is the description, her anal area from bottom center to tail is still like a white meaty color (like no scales) and her tail is good. Her color is coming back and she looks ok, just the white fleshy color on her underneath from say.... belly button to tail and up both sides a little bit, like her rear quarter panel on both sides.. lol sorry about not being able to post the pics. I am about to swap her tanks and will be able to get a better pic today sometime. Hectic schedule right now, school and work, with no days off, and it always seems like something comes up between...

most important thing, it's living and seems to be fine, except for one issue, not being able to keep itself upright. I don't know how detrimental this is to your fish's health, but not being able to stay right side up may very well be a swim bladder issue. It could have been damaged via the instestinal area. I believe the swim bladder is actually located at or below the lateral line of a fish, but it ties into the stomach/intestines.

ok so i dont have pics, because i have irresponsible. My question now is... He has fully recovered from the damage to his fins and skin, but he is still upside down. I can't place him in my community tanks. he will die. He is defenseless and cant swim right at all. cant leave top of tank at all. Do i let him live this way or do I put him down? if i put him down, what is humane way to do this?

yeah, it's definitely a damaged swim bladder..poor guy. Like I said before, Idk the effects of leaving a fish alive like that, but if he's not suffering, I would just leave em til he dies of natural causes.
