EMERGENCY FH all messed up...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ROFL, im not a bro :) and yeah kinda string poo, not so white, but since she is upside down, i figured she couldn't release poo as well as right-side up... Her tummy really isnt as bloated as it looks. She is a very short bodied flower-horn and it is more the shape of her body that makes it look swollen. All of my other fish are nice and healthy, so I am thinking that it was a bully incident rather than a disease at this point. I really don't want to lose her. She was actually the coolest color prior to this and cost me 40 bucks... I am going to try to get her through this, but do need to know, if she does live, will she be healthy? or am I torturing her by keeping her alive? She does not act frantic or freak out, she just swims around upside down at the top of tank. just not sure about the quality of life she will have or pain she is in currently.

opps sry bout that..
looks like she's having intestinal infection
u havent ans me , what u usually feed to her ?
cos MP and live feeder can cause intestinal infection very easily.

u can use "CLEAR"
put the powder in a scyrinch add water and give it directly to ur fh's mouth.
for external wounds... i usually use melafix , work like a charm.
and the staying upright thing...i might be a broken spine.

What is up with the head buldge? Do they headbutt when they fight or something? - N

You said salt, it was Epsom salt right? Regular salt is different. I wouldn't be worried about the injuries too much, I had a Flowerhorn got beat up and it cleared up.

3rd picture looks like the worst hangover ever. What do they use that for? - N

I feed pellets, flake and shrimp pellets.. I need to stop by and get the melafix and clear. do I quit using the maracyn 2 if I start with the melafix and clear? She seems to be fiesty, when I try to mess with her, she swims around to bottom and maneuvers as best as she can. I think it is the lack of fins that are making her stay upside down now and she refuses to be pinned upright.. she will wiggle out of the hold and be back floating around. She is responsive to me. I am doing water changes and adding meds as directed each day along with fresh epsom salt... I need more info on the doses of epsom salt though. i dont want to over salt or under salt tank...

i honestly think your fh will make it, it's been already how many days and still kicking. Also being responsive is a good sign. Just let it rest and keep an eye on it. Honestly I wouldn't treat for any type of disease. I don't see this being the case at all. Just use epsom salt and melafix with water changes. As far as adding the salt everyday, I would do minor water change before tossing in fresh salt. You don't want it to become concentrated as it will effect water parameters. (pH to be exact.)

The only reason I suggest not using medication for diseases, is because the fins are clearly messed up which cause your fish to swim irregular. That's like me taking your right leg and right arm off your body and telling you to swim. I can't really tell, but is your fh's pectoral fins torn also?

Is your fh eating yet? If it's responsive can it react to pellets?

yea u can try not applying med for the intestinal infection if the fish is still responsive...maybe stop feeding for few days and see if the stomach is not swelling , then slowly start feeding 1-2 pellets per day..

salt is a very good way to cure alot of diseases haha

she is responding and tried to eat some flake earlier. she can hustle away when she wants to. I feed her pellets, shrimp pellets, and flake. I also fast for a day during the week. I Think she will make it. thanks to everyones help on here, besides the one that said she wont make it... :p...

I do have a question. she is in a 10 gallon and once she is healed, can i place her in a 30 gallon for a while? I want her to have a safe place to grow for a while, she is still tiny. My next question is, can I place my juvi blue tex in my 55 with a female 2yr old rbp... She is queen of the tank. I know tex will need a bigger tank eventually, but how long can i have him in the 55? He is the nibbler and I want to keep him, but dont want him to eat my fish... :( I think my female parrot would beat his butt because her mouth does function.. which is why she is in her own tank...

question 1: the bigger the space the better , more space meaning more swimming , increase healing/growth rate , so ya why not =)
question 2: your blue tex will most likely get bullied , bp may look cute and chubby but they are equally territorial , if your tank has enough hiding place.
and big enough to house them , i would say go for it. but keep a close watch for any fighting.

geeez new question... My Bp is a female and after researching my tx cich. I think she is a girl too. CRAP... I think they are going to fight like cats and dogs... I am thinking of trying to place both in the 55 and try to place a bunch of fake plants or maybe even a divider and see how they do... I just don't want my tx to bully anyone else in my 125g...I would like to add more juvenile fish to my 125 and dont want them to get eaten... And yes, my BP is a crazy B... I mistakenly placed 2 goldfish in there once for a temp home and she ate them... they were pretty big already.. I know her cuteness ends with looks only... She is not the nicest fish... Her mate was a sweetheart though. he was kind and very gentle (RIP HOME FRY)

Chris that is a gorgeous Flowerhorn... I really want to see what mine is going to look like, she had the most wonderful color... I like the balloon bodied flowerhorn shape she was getting prior to the attack....
