I'm not touching this one with a ten foot hose.

then why bother posting in an "EMERGENCY" topic.

Back to your question SG1. Do whatever you feel most comfortable with.

If you can sleep better at night knowing everything is fine. Then by all means, take the tank down and check it over. As long as your filters keep running and your fish have O2, its more a pain in the butt than anything.

how thin is that wood? i dont see how water could soak through it in a few hours.. id be more worried that the bottom has been cracked for a while but the weight of the tank is keeping the water from escaping... and maybe the rest of the stand getting wet caused some creeking and thats what you heard which made you look for a problem... maybe... i dunno...

i would not be able to sleep untill i tore the tank apart and checked everything.. maybe just set up yer fish in a rubbermaid tub with tankwater/bubbler while you pull out the sand so you can check the bottom seals... up to you..

Ok so it sounds like the bottom of the tank is or maybe cracked. Right?
In that case try to move the substraight around and find the crack that way to asses the damage. better then taking the whole tank down.

If it is just the stand being wet and you think it won't hold try to just dry it out and get some 2x4s and add more support underneth

No I dont think the tank is cracked, Id probably have a much larger wet spot if that were the case, I think x amount of water got in there when the tank overflowed and it just sitting in there, Ive got 3 fans on it right now.

Well I dont think it is real thick wood because it feels a little warped around the wetspot, that said, all the supports look good, and Im leaning against it being a crack in the tank as its just too much of a coincidence that I noticed this and heard the crack a mear 8 hours after the tank started overflowing into the space between the glass and the stand. The stand is also only about 2 years old.

at this point I hope he is not reading my postings anymore.
Good Luck Brother....keep us posted.-FM.

You dont think the fans are a good idea now?

One more thing, if you feel lucky, you could try to take a small drill bit and, using your hand/fingers, make a small hole at the "damp spot" to let the water drain. If the water continues to drain more then say a cup or so....go with plan B. Drain the water move the fish ASAP.
.

This sounds like a great idea and a terrible one mixed together. If you can get a small drill boat I would go about half way through the wood, then poke an ice pick gently through. Maybe this is just me not wanting to drill towards my tank though. If anything this will get the residual water out and help airflow and let it dry faster.

firstly, your tanks should be sat a piece of polastyrien(sp) which is completely water proof, secondly there is a lot of downward force because on the wieght on top of the polastyrien(sp) which, IMHO would be enough to keep the water out from under your tank.
IME if water went in the gap it only got that far and there wouldn't have been enough pressure to force it under the tank.
just based on that presumption i'd need to check it out, i think it's cracked undernieth and you need to take it to pieces to make sure.
I',m not a fan of big rocks in tanks, they might look good by stone and glass just don't mix IMHO. overfilling the tank may just have been the straw that broke the cammel's back.

IMO, you should take the tank down and check it out. I don't personally see how the wood could get wet like that from "overflow" I could of coarse be wrong...but that looks more like water that has seeped through the wood, and to do that it is most likely under the tank. If you heard a crack...I'd be worried, I know I had a tank crack on the bottom before...it is a very distinct crack sound and if there is a small crack it will get bigger and it will be a disaster JMO of coarse. Good luck !!;)
