So I just got home from school and as I walked up to my tank, I noticed my Fl. Gar had my baby TSN in its mouth!
I quickly reacted and grabbed the net and tapped the Gar on the top of the head and he let go of him. The gar had a really tight grip around the tail of the TSN but luckily he let go. The shovelnose is alive, fortunately, and is swimming around the tank a bit. I think I got there just in time to save him. Had I walked in a few minutes later, it might have been to late... Anyways, I'm still really worried about my baby TSN. He is alive and just seems a bit shaken up an spooked, but there was an injury inflicted. The gar managed to take a part of the lower half of his tail fin and right after the fin you can see a small open cut from the Gar's teeth. It's a very small wound but I'm still worried. What can I possibly do to ensure a safe recovery? Is there a chance he will survive? I know catfish tend to be pretty hearty and strong fish, and he looks pretty calm considering what just happened. He's not breathing hard or showing any other symptoms other than just hiding behind some driftwood. Please guide me as to what I should do to make sure my TSN makes it out ok. Thanks in advance.
If you guys need to see some pics of the wound, I'll try and get some if that will make any assistance easier.
