so, currently i have (all non agressive) a red oscar (3"), tiger oscar (4.5"), albino oscar(1.5") and a RTC (4.5") in a 30gal who were all very happy and energetic. i had to move a pleco (5.5") from my 55gal (he was chewing on my TSN) to the 30gal. now my oscars are quiet, laying sideways, and hiding everytime we walk up to the tank. are they upset (and can they be?) about the new friend? the pleco is off in his own world and i havnt seen him near the oscars.

First things first; what are your plans for the future for these fish? Oscars tend to sulk when there upset about the easiest things..

oscars are retarded they do that- assuming your water quality is good

BTW, might want to seriously reconsider your stock. 30g and RTC dont go in the sentence. thats a potentially 4 foot fish. TSN potentially 3 foot and oscars 12"-15" each. i'd suggest you trade them back from some small community fish unless you got an indoor pond in your basement.

Don't take offense to this question, but how far into the hobby are you? How much do you know about the fish mentioned? I only ask because I don"t want to insult you by telling you a bunch of stuff you already know. However, oscars will sulk over silly stuff, but water quality could do it, too. If they are all doing it, I would suspect water quality. Plecos are a huge bio load to add to a small tank, and you could be stressing an already under filtered tank.

I had my Oscar in a 29 with a JD and a few loaches for about a month while I worked out a new tank for them. He was bout 4-4.5 inches at the time. The last week while I was setting up my 125, I noticed the oscar was laying on the floor in the back of the 29 leaning against the back wall. As soon as I moved him in to the new tank, he perked right up. My deduction is that he was feeling cramped. The water quality was very good as I'm nearly OCD about that.

I think you should start searching craigslist for a bigger tank (90+) now. My oscar grew from 1.5" to 9" in 7 months.

Also, start making plans for who will take your RTC when (not if) he out grows your tank. Unless you go upwards of 300 gallons.

Oscar, non aggressive cichlid? They can be quite aggressive depending on the O. Yours haven't hit maturity yet. Things will change then. Specially being over stocked. Myself, and I'd say probably most that have kept O, would agree that O are "semi aggressive" cichlid.

Just to recap we've got 3 Oscar, 1 RTC, 1 Pleco (common I'm assuming?) in a 30g and a TSN in a 55g?

You don't have the adequate size tank to house a single one of those by themselves. You need to reevaluate your situation.

acually the wall in our living room is being knocked out for a 600gal in about 2-3 months. moving the pleco was just a temporary fix to keep my tsn healthy. and next summers project is a basement pond. ive just gotta make it through our wedding and the tank will be built. i know some (certainly not everything) about the fish i own and i love every one of them. as soon as the 600 is built the RTC will pretty much have the 55gal by himself untill hes big enough to not be a snack for the TSN. i knew what i was getting into and i understand that ive got a 4' and a 6' posibility on my hands. And the filter (my fiancee knows more about filtration/aerators) is rated for up to 55gal tank. now what i didnt realize was just how upset id make my oscars. ive added a fish before and it wasnt a problem. thank you for helping. id seen no other reasons why theyd act that way. knowing its emotional just means im buying some feeders and a fourth tank. id do anything for my fish. they mean alot to me. :)

Buying feeders is "doing anything?" Ummm, yeah... lets see just how many diseases we can give these fish you love so much.

Perhaps you aren't aware of the problems with buying feeders? If you want to keep feeding live foods, you need to start breeding them. Convicts, guppies, mollies...lots of easy to breed options.
