watch out for Whisper 60 or larger models too, i've used whispers for a long time (have one that's 20 years old) and they've always been silent up until i got the 2 whisper 60s for my oscar in my room where i sleep, whispers are only good up to the Whisper 40 for silence

my AC110/500 is nearly silent but sometimes buzzes, i give it a little pat and it's quiet again

does anyone know any large capacity hob filters that are silent? or canisters for that matter?

i have a cascade 300 (hob) on my 20 gal and it's silent as can be. i also have a fluval 304 (can) on my 40 and i tell you what... that is the most quiet filter i've ever owned. you don't hear a PEEP out of that thing. fluvals are a little more expensive but the quietness and easy-clean features are well worth it. :clap

Is the noise your talking about the impeller? Or the splashing of the water by the bio-wheel? The fuller the tank, the quieter the bio-wheel is.

The Bio-Wheel, and I have the tank as full as it will get, I ahve discovered that cutting the flow down cuts down on the noise...Thank God, I might actually get some shut eye.....I can see it now, or well I mean I can see my eyelids now...

At least you can adjust the flow of the spraybar onto the biowheels with the emperors. The penguins dont have this.

This is why I ONLY run Eheim's in my bedroom.... Absolute ZERO noise. And I mean ZERO!!!!

Had AC's for years.
Bought Emp.400's
After 3 months of fiddling with the Emps., back to my AC's
Emps. are collecting dust in the garage.

I cant imagine being bothered by the sound of splasing water from a filter,to me its the most relaxing sound in the world

Yup. Same here. Try sleeping with a trian track no farther then 200 yards away and a major cross street about 3 blocks away. These F'ing train guys blow their horns at all hours. I think they get a kick out of it. I understand it's probably some law that they gotta do it, but come on, they blow it like 3 times and for at least 2 seconds each time. Heh keep on complaing about a lil water movement!!! I only wish...
Sorry to somewhat jack the thread but if you can't get a good night sleep because of a damn power filter... :screwy:

hahaha love my emp 400 fcuk a ac. never had a fish die on me with an emp.
