I recently got two empror 400s imported from USA to Australia for my 55 gallon... and this is how the start went:

Setup the tank....filled it with water (MANUALLY)... arrange all plants and drift wood...only to find out the... sunction line of the filter is to0 deep. And that is weird, since my tank is 52cm high (pretty tall for a average 55gallon.

If I chose not to use the long sunction part, I would have the non-extension part directly filtering the tank... (this might pull in smaller fish)... OR I could use a THIN saw to cut it to my size? Please advise.

*P.S. IF i do not use the proper LOOOONG outake, I won;t be able to use the small net type thing, that stops small or to big things getting pulled into the filter... please advise.

Emperor 400 come with very long intake tubes just cut it. I have 6 and have cut them all unless your tank is almost 24 in tall they will be too long. The tubes are easy to cut though. Good luck with your new tank. What are you planning to keep?

cut it, I've cut all 4 I own

^2nd that...definitely my favorite HOB

Yes, cut it.

Cover the filter intake with a filter sponge instead of a net. The filter sponge will provide a lot more surface area than a net meaning you wont have to clean it nearly as often. The sponge will easily disperse the intake flow enough that you won't have to worry about problems with small fish.

woot GOOD NEWS and BAD NEWS...

BAD NEWS: I imported mine from USA and ONE of the GREY bearings that hold the bio wheels are MISSING on EACH filter lol.... there should be TWO TINY grey holders on each side of the filter to hold the biowheel when it turns...

BOTH my filters have 3 of them, and 1 missing... I have contacted the company i purchased from..they said, they will be shipping out replacement.... is this normal for parts to go missing? :S

I have never heard of anyone complain about missing parts on an Emperor filter before. When I bought my Emperor 400 about 10 years ago it came with all its parts. It ran great for a long time. I then switched to canisters then got rid of the canisters and switched to sumps. I occasionally will pull out my Emperor 400 and use it for temporary chemical filtration duties. It always runs just fine even after being dry docked for a year or so. I personally think HOB's are better filters than canisters... I just didn't like the looks of HOB's in my setup.
