Once and for all?

This topic comes up about every other day. As a matter of fact there is an active thread on this same subject about 5 threads down... at least it was 5 down when I posted this mesage ;)

PS - A lot of us have shared our experiences at length so many times we aren't injterested in doing it over and over and over again. So it's common to only get 'newer' members opinions in repeadative threads...

Some will say Emperors some will say AC's there really isn't a right answer to this question only opinions. Therefore you can't go wrong with either one they both will get the job done.

not fact. all opinion. I have both. Have had issues with the emperors, the intake is a pain to cut and change from tank to tank, the motor can have issues, it can be a little louder than some, you will eventually need to use filter floss or something because the pads are too expensive, the ac is great, have never had an issue at all, the sponge lasts forever and you dont need to buy new pieces and inserts all the time.

If it were my money and I was buying a HOB right now it would be an ac110 over the emperor400. I was a big emperor fan, but over time they seem to have more issues and things to look at compared to the ac's. The spray bar in the bio wheel needs to be brushed out every now and then too, no worry with that on the ac. Its all opinion, go ahead and get both and then youll figure it out. If you are in the hobby for longer than a month youll probably need more tanks or filters anyways.

Just to show the other person that this all based on opinion. I prefer Emperors over Ac's. I had two ac's about 5 years ago about a year later both started leaking about the same time. Several months ago decided I'd try another one. Bought it and from the start had problems couldn't get a constant flow in the intake tube kept wanting to like chug.. A few days later woke up to it not even running had to take the motor off while it was running and spin the impeller mainly to get it to run. Next day same issue took it back got another emperor. I have another emperor thats 5 years old never had issues it still has the same filter pads I just wash them out once in awhile in tank water.

So as you can see its all based on opinion and personally experience and preference. What works for some wont work for others. I suggest getting both and you decide from there.

That's what I do with my filter pads...rinse'm off so as not to lose all the good bacteria n put'm back in, kinda like the A/C sponge. I also use 100 micron pad between the filter pad and the media cartridge once in a while to polish, but now look'n to put in a poly filter in.
