It's all a matter of opinion, seems a little biased personally.

Its a matter of facts, not opinion.
Feel free to check the stats on flow rate (500gph vs 400gph), power consumption (14w vs 25w), media volume (4L vs basically none), cost of replacement cartridges, and all the other stuff mentioned. The facts speak for themselves.

the only thing the emperor has over the AC is initial cost. But considering the price of replacement cartridges and the fact that the AC110 is known to last over 15years (you won't get that from an emp400) you're looking at around $1000 in savings over the life of the AC110.

it may sound biased, but that's because the pros of the AC110 far outweigh the emperor. The specs of each filter speak for themselves.

Most threads I read promote the AC's, the Ac 110s are supposed to be great, I have an AC70 and it does a great job and thats nearly half the gph, but honestly one can't be too superior over the other or there wouldn't be such a debate.

well said.

Love the Emporer 400s and the 280 I currently have. The ac110s I owned got really loud and the bio-sponge clogged up and the water just bypassed straight out. So I made one a mech only and put ehiem effisubstrate pro in the other. But the noise! Oh the noise, noise, noise!!!! I sold those POS and got the 400s and never looked back! If you take out the cartrages you can fit alot of sustrate in them...couple that with the bio-wheels and you have a great bio-filter that stays quiet for years. Make one a mech only and you can really keep a 75g clean.

Seeing how these threads come up about every other week or so and I always see you in them I have a question for you. Have you ever owned a emperor 400? From the things you say and if I had to guess I would say no. Just a question I thought I would ask! And about you always bringing up the replacement cartridges makes me think you've never had one also. I've had one for 5 years now and I've never replaced them because I've never had to. I just rinse them out it tank water once in awhile and there not even about to fall apart.

Now for everyone else it really doesn't matter if you have a AC110 or a emperor 400 at the end of the day there both gonna get the job done.

youre telling me youve had the same replaceable cartridge in the emperor for 5 years? Thats impossible. The water flow alone would make those things dissolve or fall apart. The plastic ones yeah they last forever but not the blue ones. Unless you have no poop I just cant see one of those things lasting nearly that long

I own one emperor 400 and one AC50. I honestly don't have a preference for either. Those that say the AC has customizable media just doesn't have enough idea. The emperor I have has 2 emperor filter cartridges and 2 or 3 scrubbies on each side. You just have to add them before and after the tray and take out that extra box unless you run carbon in it. In my opinion they are both equivalent filters, the AC just flows more. I even use the old whisper filters on my tanks because I can customize them still and you can get a 330 gph filter for $35.

Well I must have achieved the impossible because its the truth and I have plenty of poop from a fullgrown oscar and 5 clown loaches.

I also have a penguin 350 and another 55 gallon HOB that I've had for 5 years with the same style pads and have never replaced them either. I've been in the hobby for 5 years now and I've never bough replacement pads for any of my filters most don't last more then a year or so. But my emperor, 350, and one that came with my setup from walmart are all still with me working like they just came out of the box and still got the same pads in them

I guess I dont get it, mine would be so nasty after a month or two. I would wash them in a bucket of tank water but they still looked full of poop n crap so I just use floss now and keep the plastic ones full of something. Just cant believe yours lasted so long.
