Attempted murder, manslaughter ect ect are handled differently because the act in and of itself is different than murder. Not because of the victims skin or sexuality.

I cant tell you how many of my black friends hate the term "hate crimes". It diminishes almost every other crime including the bigger issue of same race crimes, and the recourses that gets poured into them. Id be surprised if chicago PD is dedicating as many man hrs on other crimes as they are on this

You sought to diminish the importance of the crime against Mr. Smollett because he wasn't physically injured worse than he was. In an attempted (but unsuccessful) murder, someone can be unharmed and still be the victim of a crime. Should we mock them for being shaken and wanting something done about it?
