Emporer 400

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I owe both an AC110 and several emperor 400's.
No questions on what I would pick
The emperor 400's are not really loud, my Ac110 is worse. The emperors you do not need to buy cartridges, but if you do buy them, its still cheap than the ac media.
After buying many ac filters and mainreland filters, I know which one i would pick.
Still with teh emperor. IMO the best HOB filter.

I don't understand why anything competes with the ac110....

AC110 holds more media and can actually have bio media not some stupid wheel that does crap all.

The mechanical part can be switched to endless capabilities. The emperors propeller is right there and will grab hold of any loose material.

Also the ac110 moves more water.... I mean just LOOK at the difference even physically...

AC110 are quieter too, they don't squeak water all over a rotation crap wheel.

E400 is still good filter, but it doesn't even come close to an AC70 for bio load. If your going to be filtering a tank with guppies and tetras, then yes the e400 will due just fine.

My AC 110 is pretty dang quiet. The air pump on the tank is louder than it is.

The reason the AC 110 is so much better than the rest is that when my filter maintenance rolls around I don't have to go fork over $3-5 dollars for filter cartridges, which really adds up over time. I rinse out the sponge and biomedia and put it all back in.

That's what I do with the filter cartridges of my emperor 400! just rinse them out! it is about time for some new ones, though. the ones I'm using now are about 4 years old.

I've been using the same emporer 400 for about 12 years now. its pretty quiet. just keep the water level high, and every once in a while, clean the impellar assembly.

Ive had both filters and bought some pillow batting from a craft store for a dollar lasted 2 years lol i dont use carbon but did add bio rings to both they were setup the same way both on the back of 55's both tanks held simmilar numbers and honestly i couldnt tell the difference in performance . this hobby is expensive enough buy the cheaper of the two either way you wont be dissapointed.

I like the idea of the bio media in the AC110 but this can also be done with the emp400. I think I will go witht he emp. thanks for all the info.

for those who choose the ac110, if the emp fails then I will be trying out the ac110.

I gotta think money and savings. Got a little boy coming soon and need all the money i can get right now.

Im also gonna get 2 more emperor 400's.

just bought one of these off ebay for 32, can't wait to set it up. Sounds like a good buy.

check out my thread its got alot of stuff about the emperor 400. the emperor 350 costs 14 dollars you could buy two and it would still cost less than a 400 and you would have 700 gph there is also a thread there on how to customize the 400 so that you wont have to buy the media

the 400 has the spray bar ive heard of peoples biowheels getting stuck
and you can customize it cool

I assume the bubbler in the filter will give you amazing oxygen ppm

and if you customize the price of changing the filter media will go down cause you wont have to change as often

I definitly like this idea. having 3 filters seems unnecessary though, so I think I will just use the 400 with the wetdry hack.

It's not that the E400 is gonna fail, it'll just be lacking in performance. But for the money you can just buy two E400s to compensate.
