Empty 55gal. Stock help!

This coming summer I am planning on refilling my empty 55gal tank but I can't make up my mind!

I was going to go with a flowerhorn.. but my boyfriend isn't keen on keeping a whole tank for 1 fish alone.

He also has always wanted a bichir.. so I was thinking we could have a small bichir community tank. What could I put in there and what kind of bichir would be realistic?

On the other hand I LOVE cichlids. Love the activity and personality. I've always wanted severums, maybe a pair. What are my cichlid community options in a standard 55 gallon 4' tank?

not to sure bout salvini but up to 7 firemouths i'd go for...

Nice.. I do like them and they would breed nicely if I could get a good pair.

You could definitely put a bichir with firemouths as well, but just one.

I would do a few Sen's and Del's and have then get a pair or cichlids...maybe Severums?

I would get 2 senegalus, and a bunch of cichlids

convict a firemouth some silverdollars and a pictus cat and if you want a gentle tank get 2 cory cats, 2 festivums a keyhole and chuck in the silver dollars.

u ever seen ctenopomas? theyd go nice with the bichars they get 6-8in an they have great personalities...
