I ve had my tank set up for like three months and it takes alot of work to keep it up. So im trying an experiment with gravel i took it all out. still left in some decore but going to try no gravel to trap waste. I was wondering how many ppl have their tanks like this?

Alot of ppl have them with nothing in them just the tank and fish. It cuts down on matinace. I prefer mine with some gravel but i tried the Bare bottom tank once it was kinda cool.
I use a fine layer of sand in my tanks just enough to cover up the glass but not deep enough to trap waste. When i change water i just stick my hand in and stir abit and whatever dirt that is there comes up and is sucked away.
if you go bare bottom just be sure the fish won't get spooked by reflections. i know some aros jump when they see reflections.
yeah.. alot of people have their tanks like this and definately bare bottom tanks require less maintainance.
But i Love fishes
so i like to give them a nice home with substrate, rocks, plants..and all! So i don't mind about the maintainance. And if you have really, really good filtration... you won't have to maintain it at all. Well, maybe once in a long while.

Except I lightly vacuum the layer of sand. All the waste seems to just sit on top of the sand, so it seems pointless to stir it up and have it floating around.

I belive you have been misinformed about surtin aspect's of this obssesion we call fish keeping. no matainence egual's a tank of DEATH!!!!! I'M not sure the variety you are houseing but weekly or bi-weekly mantainence is a must for a healthy, clear, happy aquarium.. 
p.s I prefure to have a thin layer if natural river stone verses a thick layer ! and a mostly open tank . nothing to fight over ......hey i dont believe its off topic, weekly or bi weekly maintenance is not always a must
