if you go with a uro.. make sure you can see it eat at the show.. make sure that it is nice and fat as well. they are notorious for being hard to get acclimated if you purchase them when they are sick..

they make great pets though:headbang2
do you know if there active at all?

the ones that i have had were active..its all in how you set up the enclosure.. if you set it up bland then they will not be active.

giving them a nice substrate to burrow in will help keep them active. but like most reptiles good portion of there day is spent basking.. but they are active inbetween..

sweet

whats a good borrowing substrate?

alot of people do a sand, topsoil, vermaculite mix i beleive..

ive used sand and topsoil before with good results. the top dries out and is desert like in appearance but it stays damp below, which allows them to stay hydrated real good. this also makes it so you dont have to add any other form of water into the cage. so you dont have fungus problems in the cage.

this also allows you a good solid place to but objects to climb on and suck to use as basking sites. or you can just use a rock. the basking site needs to be HOT i mean like 120* hot surface temp.. ill see if i can dig up pics of some of my old uros to show you.. im a big fan of high yellow male malis, as well as high black ones. which is what i will be going with in my next uro tank.. hope this helps

Mine uses grinded walnut shells subsrate.I use a 100Watt bulb a Heat rock and a brick cave. But they love the cheap metal tubing. I have an Egyptian & Mali uro.
All they eat is Romane & Millet and sometimes some sunflower seeds. They dont drink water but they need a bath once a week. Here are some pics.
