Yeah Ive read that some people have had slime coat issues with API Stress Coat but if you have been using prime for 5 months then thats not it.
DMD123 has an endli so what's your point? I agree with what they've been saying, they're taking other things into consideration as well. No need to be stubborn, they are just trying to help you. Saying they lack experience when you don't know their experience is kind of rude.
I didn't say he lacked experience. I'm just asking about specific endli experience that I can cross reference against mine to maybe find a solution I'm not aware of. Obviously stress is the first port if call so I ruled that out by stating there's no aggression or water quality issues. I also accept that the tank is overstocked right now but it's only reached this point recently and is in hand but the problem has always been there anyway.
What I don't accept is a) that im a liar (about water quality) and b) that I should sell certain fish because some people couldn't make it work or worse they read it doesn't work. Well that's kinda what this hobby is about...keeping 1,2,3....apex predators successfully is risky and against the usual order of things. Some fail where some succeed and the reason is usually down to the personality of the fish so telling me to get rid of MY fish is like me telling you to get rid of your dog because that species once bit your cousins grannies uncle. You'd tell me to gtfo.lol I get some are incompatible down to biological/physiological needs that can't be balanced but some supposed incompatibility can be overcome. That's what I'm here for...practical solutions for success, not to be to give up and buy a goldish
or sit there with an half ass empty tank.
So once again. Anyone had any bichir disease illness etc especially related to slime coat? Or any adverse effects of inbreeding full stop would be nice to know
Wow.Hi all
I apologise for the long post in advance.
Anyone had an experience like this? Every few days or so he'll swim quickly to the surface and literally cover the tank in slime coat.
Nitrates are kept below 20 all the time via 10x p/h turnover and 50 % water change with prime every 3/4 days.
Hes 13" and other than this appears active and healthy.
Balanced diet of frozen and pellets
No cats or plecs sucking on him and no aggression towards him that he's bothered about (small jd and a black diamond that nip him when he bulldozers them, but he doesn't even flinch)
Has a couple of caves he chills in
Lights are on 10 hours a day
Shares a 300l (75g) grow out with:
15" ornate
12" RCK
12" Rope x2
10" jaguar
10" mbu
9" bala X2
9" Chalceus
8" Odoe
6" Black diamond cichlid
5" Vittatus tiger
5" Mala Wolf
4" JD
A few assorted gourami I inherited.
I know it's overstocked but it's been built up gradually and extra cannister filters have been added accordingly. They're all due to move into their new 660l this weekend but i won't move him if he needs treatment.
Local LFS haven't got a clue so any ideas or similar experiences/solutions appreciated
Bit of a shocker actually. One the tank size second that no damage being done by mbu yet.Hi all

So While I somewhat agree with your argument about keeping multiple predators, I disagree in how you are approaching it. This is my point of view so do with it what you will. Most of us here on MFK at one point or another have tried to do what you are describing, and it is very possible. One things people tend to lose focus on is the individual needs of the fish. Some of the fish you are keeping regardless of how they are behaving now, need bigger tanks. Another thing I think your looking past with too much ease is the aggression factor. With a good bit of those fish in there, if you aren't already experiencing it (which may be debatable as aggression can be nocturnal) then you will in the future. I understand that you want to be quick to dismiss these claims of being over stocked, bad water quality, and aggression, but by doing so you may be passing up the necessary information needed to find the solution to your problem. I think you know as well, that you are overstocked to a degree, and while you may not have seen aggression it is very possible so I would try and while some of this information may not be pleasant to hear it may be what is needed to figure out what is wrong with your fish.I didn't say he lacked experience. I'm just asking about specific endli experience that I can cross reference against mine to maybe find a solution I'm not aware of.
