Well, if you want to get technical then a fish cannot choke (no trachea or larynx),
but the gravel in this guys throat definitely interfered with respiration.
He maybe could go up for air, but it obviously didn't go into his body.

Everyone else, thanks for the replies,
Its just boil and scrape, boil and scrape

Great Job Street Cypher !

how many hours of effort did cleaning the skull consist of? How did you manage to clean it so well, without tearing off any teeth?

The rocks never made it that deep in. It got stuck in the throat and the fish had a hard time "breathing" which lead to choking.

are you talking about the polypterus or the dovii?

ok, then tell me, how did it effect its breathing?

It only took an hour to do the whole thing. Its not the teeth i had to be careful with, the whole skull is quite fragile when it was softened by the boiling water, its the lower jaw i had to be careful with.

Hmmm damn ho to describe……u knw when the fish breath you see it opening its mouth spreading its gills and letting the water pass through and you see in it's mouth open that there is also soemthing that moves in it. IMO, all those things that move are what makes the fish breath properly. So when the rocks clogged the throat area. Not everything could function properly. Not saying the fish would right right away but its more like a slow suffocation.

Wow, Street Cypher... ur a natural Edward Scissorhands!! ;) J/k!

Sorry to hear your loss tho... How long did you exactly have it? how are your other polys??... see any similar signs on them? man, that sucks!!... I know the feeling... Ordered a group of (7) endlys awhile back... lost them ALL, 'cept for one,,, ended up selling it too! Total bummer!! :(
Anyways, good job w/ the skin peeling on the SKULL... Shoot, good job on the whole entire autopsy experiment!... I just might have to do that w/ some of my freezer stock myself! Lol!
