it's all been said for me. johnny, you should seriously listen to what people are trying to tell you, especially if they're all saying the same thing.

also, there may not be any cases of a croc monitor killing anyone (yet) and there are a few cases of big pythons killing people, but does this mean the pythons are vicious and the monitors are puppy dog tame? no. it just means that pythons are far more readily available, and more people have the opportunity to screw up. croc monitors are rare in the hobby, and expensive, so it is far harder for an inexperienced keeper to lay hands to one, and fewer people who have the chance to screw up.

these animals are on a level of their own, previous experience with other monitor species and even venomous snakes does not prepare you, you need to train for croc monitors themselves, you can't jump into one thinking "i've handled dangerous reptiles before, i can handle a croc monitor."

please, think long and hard about if you're ready for this.
Yes i agree with you mate!! me haveing kept other dangerous reptiles does not mean i can take a croc monitor lightly!! These are serious reptiles and deserve the respect of eaven the most knowledgeable of varanus keepers!
wich im definitely not i understand!! I will try and find people in england who actually keep this lizard and ask as much as i can about this monitor! also if its posible to handle this varanus!! and how to do this safely!!

But yes iv got to give this stunning monitor a go!!

guaranteed safe is nonexistant. they are completely unpredictable, there is no failproof method to handle them. you can handle them in a way that improves your odds, but the risk will always be there, and it will be much more than a 1/100 chance.

My male is currently on Fauna Classifieds, for sale, with a female. I'm in the process of trying to buy him back...simply because I do not want him to go to a keeper who is inexperianced and gets him just because they can afford it.

I'm sorry to hear that Andy. I'm glad he will possibly be going back to live with you instead of some d-bag with a few thousand dollars to blow and a hard-on for something scaly and dangerous.

When I saw this thread pop up, I was hoping you would jump in and share your experiences. I remember the dramatic transformation that your croc went through under your care. I hoped this kid would listen to you, but in the end he won't. He will buy it and probably kill it. If he doesn't kill it, it will end up either hurting him or he will get rid of it because he can't handle it. Sad but true.

So people breeding big pythons! such as retics and african rocks! wich are more deadly! (also bean cases of deaths by ) not croc monitors!! are not putting the hobby at risk?? also how many people can really keep a full grown 20+ ft and 200+pound snake properly!! So are the breeders of these snakes also in the wrong for breeding and more importantly selling the cute little one"s!
Think you"ed better get on the phone to bob clark and others who" breed these huge snakes! and tell them in your opinion! They should not breed or sell there snakes!!:D Think they may listen to your opinion chloe!

thats not what im saying at all *sigh*
im just saying that basically u have never owned one of these before, yet ur going to jump in and get 2, then attempt at breeding, for a market that isnt really going to be interested.
im not saying dont do it all together, just maybe wait a few years to know you can deal with it and to gain experience.

dont jump straight on the offensive at me because ur ignorant. u have asked for advice and people r giving it to u. once again dont ask for advice if ur not going to take it.

i said what i said because i am in the uk and dont want to lose my burms, boas and bosc just because someone is being irresponsible....like i also said that statement wasnt aimed at u, but any other person that thinks they can take on an animal of such magnitude but really have no idea.

in all honestly i think you think i have no idea what im going on about.
u keep going on about dwa to people, that IMO, seem to be alot more responsible and cautious than you. these people who have given u AMAZING advice are only trying to help. u have made this worse for yourself by fighting everyone.

theres so much more i could say on this subject but after reading ur last threads i see ignorance is bliss to u.

Haveing my own opinion! makes me ignorant??? and is putting your opinion across! Fighting with people?? if thats whot it is!! Think i"ll carry on fighting then!! Sorry if that makes me ignorant!!!

and if you think my posts are me being ignorant!! Dont Read Them Love!!

oh dear, thats exactly my point.
u havnt actually read what i said, have u?
all u have replied to my comments is the bits where u THINK im offending u.
nothing was originally aimed at u yet u have taken it as so.
this is ignorance.

dont even try to bring big names in to it. re read EVERYTHING i have said then reply with a coherent answer.

i think everything i have said has a valid point, get it but make sure ur rooms ready months before first, andy has offered help so take it. do as much research as u can etc. try and get experience at a zoo etc.

just dont jump in the deep end was ALL i was saying. u and no other rep keeper in the uk want to lose all that we love because something could happen to someone being irresponsible (once again not aimed at u, just anyone in general).
theres not a huge demand for these lizards here was what i was syaing in a nutshell, so y bother breeding. just wait to gain experience.

Johnny get what you want dude. More power to you. Just be safe and post pics!!
