Don't worry about challenging my knowlege, I don't pretend to be the smart aleck of P' keeping, I am just trying to help a little regarding what I have experienced and read.

Oh there's nothing but respect here. I just didn't want you to get defensive and think I was calling you out. I'm just here to learn from everybody's experience. Thanks for taking the time to answer my Qs.

Incase you're wondering why I even care regarding her Ps, i got 8 Ps i'm currently keeping in a 75 gallon within days of her purchase so we've kinda been following each other's progress. Thanks again.

Trust me i also had a 55 gallon and a fluval 304 to filter it. I won't work. You can get a 304 and a ac110 for ultimate filtration.

Actually I am almost the same, I am currently keeping 7 pygos ranging from 6" to 8" in a 100gal, it is overstocked. They are ok because they haven't gotten their full size and I have 2 filters that provide me rate of 8 turnovers but I'm afraid i'll have to get rid of 3 maybe 4 pygos since I cannot get another bigger setup.

Cheers.

I do agree, specially when the lady is young and pretty.....:naughty: all of us are pretty willing to help....;)

LOL, i pointed that out to her when she first started posting and she didn't even notice. I was like look at the 20 posts on your threads and the 3-4 posts on every other thread.

I'm stealing her avatar and using it as my own if i ever need any serious help.

the best rule of thumb when dealing with Piranha tanks is that you want to buy the biggest tank and the most turn over in filtration you can buy. Craigslist and other private sales can be the best deal. you should consider that rbps when properly fed and housed can grow up to 8 inches in the first year. so once you get to about 4-5 inches if you have 6 in a 50 gallon you should move to a 125 gallon. imo its pretty necessary to keep about 20 gallons per RBP. Piraya and Caribe ideally need about 30 gallons per fish or so. you can get away with 120 4x2x2 for 6 RBP. RBP can get to about 10 inches or so in 2 years. The main thing is providing them space and good water. Filtration and water changes are so important.

Haha no one answered in this thread for like 2 days after it was made...I eventually just looked up the tank size recommendation for the 304 and its for a 70 gal tank...so not enough for p's. I am just going to get a second HOB filter and use that...ill use the fluval elsewhere.

Correct me if i'm wrong but all the reading I have done on rbp's seems to say that they have a growth spurt starting around 3" and grow fast to 5"...and then grow a little slower. I have the option of putting them in a 65...but it has the same footprint..its just taller..so I didn't see the point.

Anyway yeah I am totally prepared for their bigger tank need...in my old posts i keep telling everyone about how badly I need to clean out my office so I will have more room for tanks (my bedroom is getting cramped) anyway and i'll be able to put in a 120-150 tank for em.

if you have the option go with the bigger tank since piranhas have a high bio load the extra water will help keep nitrate levels lower thats the only benefit really. lower nitrates help promote growth. also if you can use the fluval in conjunction with an HOB or whatever that would be best try to aim for 10x filtration. its hard to say where the growth spurts happen. they grow pretty fast from fry to about 6-7 inches or so.

I can understand that more water keeps the water cleaner...but its just height they won't use...I would rather just do more frequent water changes.
There will be 2 HOBs in there...plenty of water flow and circulation rule of thumb is circulation for 2xs the size of the tank so for my 50 have circulation for a 100 gal tank...or close to it
