Enough Filtration?

Correct me if i'm wrong but all the reading I have done on rbp's seems to say that they have a growth spurt starting around 3" and grow fast to 5"...and then grow a little slower. I have the option of putting them in a 65...but it has the same footprint..its just taller..so I didn't see the point.

Anyway yeah I am totally prepared for their bigger tank need...in my old posts i keep telling everyone about how badly I need to clean out my office so I will have more room for tanks (my bedroom is getting cramped) anyway and i'll be able to put in a 120-150 tank for em.

My 6 RBP are exaclty one year old and they are, as I stated before, ranging from 6" to 8". That might give you an Idea of its growing spur.

After a year I believe they get one or two inches per year I am not 100% sure of this last data though.

If you get a 150 gal it would be great for your 6 rbp's, remember talking about a P's setup, the bigger the better, and just make sure you provide them with a filter or filters that give you a rate of at least 5 turnovers, 8 to 10 would be great.

I am missing something:

If you can change them to a 65 gal it deffo will help although if the footpint is the same it might not be the optimal but sure it's better than a 50 gal.

this is the deal with the tanks.
This guy (who i got them from) had 2 65's and wanted a stand made so he could stack them...well he did the math wrong or something and the bottom 65 was waaaay too close to the frame and you couldn't get anything in or out...so he had the bottom one cut down from 2' tall to 1.5' so now its a 50 gal.

so its just a half foot taller...which they probably wont use.
 
they dont ever lose the spots but around 4" they grow larger silver scales which start to cover them up.
that 6" off the top of the tank will make a big difference when they get bigger, you lose at least 3" off the top with the edge strips n support members so now you've got 15" of water which when you've got a 7" deep Piranha it doesnt give much manoverability in a shoal. go for the biggest tank you can get, for 6 RBP 5ft x 2ft x 2ft minimum, as for HOB filters they do a good job for normal fish but i just dont rate em for P's, a good cheap canister filter is the JEEBO 229 which is readilly available in the states, i got 1 in the UK for £40 whats that? $60? i couldnt afford a fluval fx5 so tried this n its a fantastic filter at 1/3rd of the fx5 price tag. its also rated at 1500l/h.
