Enough Waterchanges?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
here's an addendum to what I said earlier:

my intent was not to derail the OP's thread, but rather to point out that there are ways to control nitrates w/o doing large water changes; i.e., it is is possible to have low nitrates and do relatively small water changes if there are other factors keeping nitrates low. these could be plants, small bio-load, etc.

I didn't intend to argue in favor of small water changes, just to point out that large water changes are not the only way to control nitrates . . . as noted earlier, I do weekly change of 15-20% (minimum) even tho' I have very low nitrates . . .

a 10% W/C/week isn't enough IMO...

I agree. now that I am raising discus, it is more than ever important to more w/c & higher %.

but in the past I have let my tanks sit just topping w/o having any problems, go figure! & I always had overstocked. guess my hob did a good job.

but not today I couldn't knowingly do the same ignorant thing. so w/c it is!
