at least you know the effort it takes now to post pictures huh!!!?? Bro you should have been here tonight, my wife caught every fish and moved all the sand to the 300g! By 0830 (8:30am) tomorrow the 220g will be picked up and gone. Tomorrow I will post pics of how well the FX5 worked moving water from one tank to another... Oh and you missed dinner again lol!

I think you'll be ok with the gutter guard, just check what it's made out of and coated with. Otherwise, you can go with an intake/overflow strainer/screen. I'm not sure you can find one locally, maybe ordering one at a plumbing supply place, or find a place online. I hope that helps some. Also, I have to agree with what you said about Clockwork. Sometimes, just having someone intelligent there to mull over ideas with is worth more than it's weight in gold.
