Schedule 40 PVC ball valves.

If you are going to dis-credit a product it would be nice to know WHY. Please explain the drawbacks of using such products.

I have no problem with cartridge hob filters. I run 2 dual cartridge units on my 75.
With the dual cartridge units you can alternate changing out filter bags so you don"t send the tank into a mini cycle.
I have a single cartridge on my 20 gal. When it comes time to change it I use a cartridge that has recently been replaced in one of the dual units.

The cartridges today are very thin and impossible to wash out and reuse, they just fall apart. Years ago they were thicker. However this is no reason to discredit this type of filter, replacement bags are cheap.

RE : Schedule 40 PVC ball valves.

If you use a PVC ball valve that has no serviceable parts and require that it cycle open and shut with regularity it is only a matter of time before it becomes sticky and hard to close. Eventually the handle will break. Given the cost of schedule 80 valves I choose to use brass instead.

Algaefix, Hurricane overflows, CPR overflows, Tenecor aquariums, Tronic heaters...that's all I can think of off hand. I'm sure there are more.
CPR overflow boxes work great for me it's the TOM's aqua lifter's that usually crap out on me.
What problems have you had with CPR overflows?

Any Algae removal chemical (kills fish, dosen't work), water clarifier (makes the water cloudier...), and Tetra heaters (dosen't actually heat the water appropriately...).
