basslover: A wels (only with one "l" btw) of 12-14 feet (3,6-4,2m) would even with comparably slim proportions weigh about 270 (at 12) - 420kg. Weight increases with the cube, and even comparably small differences can have huge effects.

Yeah I know wels is with 1 L ... stupid spell checker changed it, ANYWAY... When you catch a 12 footer... let me know what it weighs and I can show you that I'm not that far off

ok actually i guess about 8-9 feet if tip to tail is counted and about 750-800 lbs

That is about 230 lbs, heres a 121lb I caught in june-really small fish for out there

I would have guessed more but after owning one that seems about right. The tail is long and the bulk of their weight/mass is in their smaller front bodies. A beast for sure!

oh yeah looked at the link with all those catfish pics, definitely the way the pictures are taken can make the catfish look smaller or bigger.
