idk about you but after a few hours in the ocean i'm pretty sure i'de drown... or if i managed not to after a few days deffinately die of dehydration.
imo everyone should watch the movie bio-dome... other then Pauly shore being hilariouse.
and I'm pretty sure survivability rates in wild fish are pretty low, or else we wouldn't have fisherys all over the world for different species sustainability. besides the factors of habitate shrinking ect... they just don't have a survivability rate. Most species lay hundreds and thousands.. some millions but iir a few have as low a 1% survivability rates to adulthood/spawning age. Fisherys are so successful because we "nurse" the fry to a age they have a higher percentage of survivability and then they are released to do their thing. Fry of most if not all species from what I know are all predated on, i'm not aware of any species that from a fry has no predetors. Goodness knows I odn't want to make this mistake again, this is what I know. Wether its true or not you'll have to ask a fisherys employee/manager ect.
Actually that is not true.
In any case, it is not a surprise fish die easily in our care. We will probably die easily in a water breathing animal's care.
if you really want to look at that, how many fishkeepers are serious hobbyists that know what they are doing? All my life I thought my father was a serious hobbyist until I got into the hobby and learned all the things that he never did lol. On top of that you have people(we all are guilty) impulse buying fish that are similar to the ones we know of. A simple matter of a few degrees in temperature can be fatal for many species so unless we really research everything we buy, there is always the chance of screwing up basic care requirements. Most other animals are not that picky with care, or have such a wide array of different care requirements.
There's a lot more to water quality and water chemistry than us average hobbyists know. It's not just ammonia/nitrite/nitrate and PH. It can get very technical, much more than our little $20 disposable test kits can tell us. Look to the aquaculture industry and the equipment they use, and the parameters they are constantly keeping an eye on. Their life support systems are mind-boggling intense. It's not just all about biological filtration and water changes. Flip through the pages of Aquatic Eco's catalog and you'll see what I mean.
If it was really about right and wrong, then none of us should keep fish at all. All of our fish would be happier in the wild. It's just that some fish keepers think that because they have much bigger tanks, they are more of an animal lover than everyone else. But really we are all capturing fish and putting them in our homes for our own enjoyment so no one here is better than anyone else.
I think people on here believe any tank under 200 gallons is not suitable for any fish. Second I believe people on here woof saying they have a large tank like 500 gallon monster but in reality have a 75 gallon. Third those pool tanks are boring for fish they just swim in circles with nothing except blue so how would you feel everyday walking around just a blue room? Fourth its just fish they aren't humans so therefore I don't value fish over humans as in conditions like PETA does. Six some fish aka red tail catfish like many fish don't swim like sharks but mostly lay on the bottom of tanks just like an Pima on top of the surface. They need room to turn around but most important spaces to hide. Many fish in aquariums at zoos are stressed because not of tank mates or water quality but because they can't hide. Last regardless of what people think or say someone is going to argue saying its go big its to small nitrates to high wrong color lights to bright. Now ready for my flamming and yes I have a 12 inch redtail in a 180 which I inherited because tank wasn't suitable at 55 gallons from previous owner.

Thanks for the lesson on fish keeping. I guess with your logic you might as well trash your 180g since it is not suitable for any fish. Brilliant rant there.
I think tanks starting at 5 gallons is suitable for some fish. Petsmart have 40 gallons min for Red Texas Cichlid. They are no experts just sales fish.
