It burns in very badly on an open sore I would put it up there with iodine. Don't get me wrong it is numbing but only after it burns for five of so minutes.
Is there a reason the eugenol works without causing the fish severe pain?
Why not just make up a syringe of potassium chloride?
I use clove oil when I have to put my fish under, or euth them. It appears to have a different effect on fish than humans.
I don't think you are supposed to put it on open wounds...
The main way I euth a fish is with clove oil- Place in bucket or container, and I cover it so it's dark and they relax and go under faster.
