Ever got distracted or fell asleep during a WC?

Man I remember doing water changes with a 5g bucket on my 30g tank. But I could imagine doing that on my 300g... I still feel like slapping myself for doing such a thing :duh::duh:

I did this just last night. I was doing a wc in one of my 30gal and I got distracted for a minute until I herd my girl friend screaming Ben!! you dumba$$!! your tank is over flowing!! I only lost a few gallons on the ground all and all not too bad but it's good my girl friend noticed or who knows how long I would have let it go lol

Yep. The baby started crying then after changing him I sat down to watch tv. Shortly after that, I heard the soundnof water pouring out of the tank.

I did the opposite a few days ago. I left my python draining my small 29g and heard my car alarm going off. Went outside and ran into a neighbor where we spoke for a few minutes (i was telling him how I was cleaning my tanks)...and then it hit me "I'm emptying my tank"!!!
Ran back in and found my fish flapping around on the small river stones and the siphon sucking up air. Quickly flipped the lever on the python, added prime and filled the tank. They all survived. Close call!

I've never had some of the nightmares I'm reading here, but just two weeks ago I was filling my 100 and decided I needed a smoke. I looked at how much was left to fill and figured I had plenty of time. Turns out I was off by about 30 seconds. I came back in to the sound of splashing water all over the floor. I got pretty luck though, I caught it pretty early and I was able to clean up what spilled with just a single beach towel.

It's happened to me about 10 times.

Now, whenever I am filling, I just sit/stand there and watch it.
If someone in the family starts talking to me or anything like that, the water gets turned off.
Way too easy to get distracted when the phone rings, family member starts talking or whatever, then forget the water is running.
It's boring to watch water go into a tank, but I just hate cleaning up floods.

Hasn't happened as an adult but 15 years ago when I lived at home still i over filled for long enough for the water go to from the second floor to the basement... Hardwood floors so it didn't go far just straight down ruining the ceilings. Father wasn't impressed.

I have never over filled a tank, however while draining out the window and into the garden the siphon hose fell from the window and onto the carpet when I wasn't in the room ((never expected to have issues with draining a tank 50% for a WC!!)) Water was all over the carpet, I was so mad because I was really tired that day. Cleanup lasted forever.

These stories bring back memories. I used to have a few tanks in a boat house on the lake, I forgot about them all the time. Good thing they were outdoor tanks. I've also killed a few fish by not adding dechlorinator.
