Ever see natives at your LFS?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I live in Aus and nearly every lfs near me sells Aus natives. I have never seen any in with feeders. But one petstore was selling salmon tailed catfish and said that they only grow to 30cm. there are different varieties, but the ones they were selling were the same as the ones I have caught while fishing, including a 4ft specimen and several 70cm ones. The were selling them at a size of 3-4 inches. I wonder how many people bought them for their 55g with the wrong info? cheers, jim

You eat a Murray cray while you were up there? There's this hoity toity grocer near me that gets em once in a while, labeled as giant Australian fw crayfish. Absolutely delicious lol

I've seen lil madtoms, what unsuspected were sunnies or bluegills mixed in with the feeders but practically ever shop in this area sells all tropicals. There is 1 place with one cold water display for pikes and bullheads but those aren't mixed in as feeders. I also hear northern pikes don't do too well in tanks for too long so I'm sure everyone I've seen that was kept in the "120 gallon minimum" that the LFS stamped em with is dead or in bad shape. Lest someone was smart and put em in their pond.

I'm gonna have to check out some LFS when I'm in Ohio, it'd be cool seeing little paddles in a tank. The big ones at the Baltimore national aquarium are awesome

No, I haven't eaten murray crays, they are a southern species and I only recently moved down south from north aus.

Buffalo you sure they were Murray crays and are they live?..I doubt it but if so let me know when they get more.

rnt paddlefish endanger?
Most paddlefish you seen for sale are usually hatchery bred ones and not wild caught ones. Paddlefish populations have increases in recent years, through they are protected fish in most states but they are not endangered species.

Store near me has/had transient SW non-natives caught in our waters.

-Lookdowns
-Butterflyfish
-Filefish

All stuff that gets caught in the current of the gulfstream and ends up stuck in NJ during the warmer months.

Other than that just the occasional channel catfish
