Over time all HOB filters get gunked up, and require cleaning. How long do you think a HOB filter such as an AC 110 should go before cleaning? 6 months? A year?

You mentioned a specific strain of fish, one that I am very familar with, and there is no debate. At 4" that fish should not have been fed 3mm pellets, unless you don't mind wasting food, and spending extra time cleaning filters.

I'm just telling you what I experienced. Since he's a single fish I feed him pellet by pellet.. there are no extras, but there is a dust that settles in the tank from it. It's a dust.. not particles as when I go to vac it, it just puffs out into the water.

That dust as you called it is from fine particulate matter created from excess chewing. There is no 4" flowerhorn in the world that can swallow a 3mm NLS pellet whole, even at 7-8" the vast majority of FH will do some chewing before they swallow a 3mm pellet. Even still, unless one is overfeeding that shouldn't result in an AC110 getting clogged. (see my previous post with regards to FH, 3mm pellets & my AC110's)

I'm amazed how some people can't just admit their mistake, learn from others with more experience, and move on.

Why is it that with you and many others always think that someones EXPERIENCE is always WRONG?

Here's an example.. someone buys a Midas and it's Mean as hell.. someone else buys one that is a complete puppy dog.. does that mean that they can't form an opinion on a fish or express their EXPERIENCE because someone else has experienced something different?

I have 4" Carpintis that will shove so much food in their mouth it's hanging out.. they can surely eat a 3MM pellet. They eat Hikari sinking gold which is bigger without any issues.

Just because you experienced something different, or you have a different opinion doesn't make the other person in the wrong.

Everyone is going to have different opinions on fish food, cars, dog food, music etc.. that's life. That doesn't make them incorrect for having a different feeling about things.

ROFL 3mm pellet to a 4" fish... I don't even feed my cichlids 3mm until they hit 12".. Mshill, try feeding your fish 1mm pellets... I can bet that your filters won't get that mud gunk in it. I would like the point out that your "experience" with NLS and the mishaps with it were caused from you, not the product. So what if your Carpintis can swallow Hikari pellets. NLS pellets, if you haven't noticed, are a lot harder than Hikari pellets.

Actually water, I have tried the micro pellets, and he ignores them. he will only eat larger food. He's the pickiest fish I have. As for the gunk.. this was only in the tanks I fed NLS even when I pet pellet by pellet. I was doing 3 pellets a day for my FH, and it would still gunk up.

And I found that the NLS I bought was extremely fresh, and it was actually more like a clay texture. So it wasn't all that hard. I find my Hikari to be harder.

Micropellets for a 4" fish? Try 1mm pellets. As for it gunking up in your filter, I'm still very much convinced that your FH is not eating all of it, but rather expelling it from his gills. I fed a tank full of FH fry 1mm pellets(The fry ranged from 2"-3"), didn't have any build up from the food at all in my filters. As for Hikari being harder than NLS pellets? I don't think so lol. I crush the Hikari pellets(The really big ones, I forget the size but much bigger than 3mm) in my fingers with ease.. I have to use a pestle and mortar to break down NLS pellets..
