i love the voice of dripping water while sleeping...its soothing...
so im gonna put the tank beside my bed, both the same lenght...but its gonne be a waste of money to put just two snakeheads in them...so im gonna try some cheap but colourful tankmates like green terror or tiger oscars or blood parrots or red tail catfishe...bigger than the snakeheads..
if it does not work then im just gonna add a couple of more snakeheads...

im not yet sure if they are male and female, they can be both males or both females....if they are a different sex then they are gonna stay in the tank alone, and im gonna try breed them...
looking at the pics does ne one have ne idea abt how to sex them?

not a good idea...green terror,rtc...bigger than ur snakehead will put serious stress...and rtc will outgrow them...might eat them too....if u want...just ut another 2-3 extra snakes.

hi mate

do not go for a rtc , it will out grow the reds and eat them within time , rtc grow much faster than micros , many people have tried it and many people have lost there reds .

to be honest i would put another couple of reds in there , before you know it they will make the new tank look small , dont look at it as a big tank being a waiste of extra space , look at it as you are providing the best accomadation you can for you chasen species = micros ,you can give them the room they deserve to swim about in and set the tank up in a great way for them with plants (most other fish will eat theese) and floating cover ,places to hide ect , a very large tank aquascaped correctly that houses a couple of micros is a sight to behold.

also the more more you put in there the less comfortable the micros will be , eventually they will become hyper aggresive and kill all the tankmates anyway , if you must put another species in there buy them cheep as tank fillers with the understanding that you will eventualy loose them ,but please try and stay away from rtc tsn pacu alligator gars rays ect. they are all fish that deserve there own setups dedicated to there needs

just trying to save you some hard earned cash ,and make your mirco tank a unique thing of beuty rarther than just a collection of fish , belive me i have tried every way of keeping fish and when you have a correctly setup micro tank with a couple of two footers in there ,you will be glad you did it the right way

thx mate...will def put SH's in now...
only problem is i cannot get reds this size...they are either smaller or bigger...and that means fights...
can i put other species of channa of the same size with my reds?

thats a question only the fish themselves can answer , i have put marulia in with them before and was ok , i did the same thing some years latter and the maurlia nearlly killed the reds , i have also had luck with bigger pleuros and reds and marulioides with reds , but i have also had to remove a lot of fish because of fighting

mixing large snakeheads is allways a risky buisness , luckly at the size yours are there is a chance of it working (for a while at least) but as they grow larger who knows . there is no definate answer to this one , also some reds are quite peacefull and some start to go nuts as they mature so depends on the fish . if your going to do it i would ask the lfs ,if they start fighting can you return it . remember the final size of your reds also, this makes your choice very small as they will out grow most snakeheads . your best chance would be in order ,in my opinion anyway

1 slighly larger micros
2 2-3 inches larger marulioides
3 3-4 inch larger pleuros
4 approx same size or very slightly smaller marulia

i think any of the above will be fine for a time , its just what happens as they get bigger

to honest i think if you manage to get pleuros or marulioides as they grow you will be likley to prefer them over your reds anyway and the reds could be moved on if aggresion starts

yep...im trying to go as wide as my bed...around 7 feet long...half meter wide and one meter height....

220 is a rough estimate....not sure how many gallons that will me...im gonna get some tankmates...

i would make the tank one metre wide rather than high as the length and width are more important than height although this would have to be at least 60cm/24" high anyhow,by the way 84"x39"x24"high would be around 283 imp gallons,if you are going to the expence of a new tank you may as well make it 75cm/30" high to give you more volume:)
