Goldfish are very fatty and will eventually kill your fish. I know I'm totallt against feeders, but maybe you should try guppies. Much healthier.

I agree, and they've shown to have thiaminase, and thiamine inhibiting enzyme. once he puts on a little bit of weight and size, i'll have him weaned onto something healthier.

on the flip side, i've heard of excellent growth from feeding gold fish. and what do you guys think about gut loading them before use, and how long would you let them "gut load" before using them? if you use them right after feeding them food, they'll throw up a lot of the food and pollute the water and no have much benefit. but if you wait too long, then some of the is processed, would it still provide the nutritional benefits?

Its cruel to feed gold fish many might say, and I can empathize with them. i've taken a few of my favorite feeders out and raising them as pets :screwy:

but fish eat fish in the wild, and we eat smaller other animals too, so.... PETA :swear: :swear: :swear:

Going back to the subject, I've noticed that feeding fish with....smelt, frozen shrimp and other prepared food, their growth rate is less than that with feeders, maybe healthier, and growing fast is most definitely not a determining factor of health...
