Yeah, I again, agree....and some fish can tolerate a higher fat content in their diet. I wonder if hydrocynus is one of them. They actually develope a fatty adipose tissue around the eye when they're larger. In the wild, they probably feed on mormyrids, some shad/sardine like fish in the lakes, etc...which are pretty high in fat content too.

However, I don't like to feed my more sedentary fish with feeders, worry they might have a heart attack...
 
I've had best results in growing ATF's with live food till they get about 6-7" Then when they are nice and fat with meat on them I feed market shrimp.

If I start to ween them off live when young my results has always been death =-(
Currently my 13 ATF's eat Tetra Bits and Jumbo Tetra Stick but their is nothing like feeding live to bulk them up. I feed 200 fatheads a week for my baby's.... :naughty:

I was using goldfish but found that if they can't swallow if whole they will just kill it. With the fatheads they are nice and slender. Making it easy for swallowing.
