Exodon as solo fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Having had a single RBP, they have a similar behavior to what I’ve seen in serras, just more skittish.
Theoretically you could keep an exo on their own, but something would be lost with them. They are most impressive in groups. That said, I was at a petco a while ago and saw a solo exo pinning a whole bunch of convicts and Jack Dempseys…

Yup. Exodons are social fish and enjoy large groups.
I think “enjoy” and “social” aren’t the right term for a fish that would quickly kill all of the other tetras just because it can…
“Tolerates” seems to fit better…same for piranhas.

People keep singular piranha because as they get bigger they become more solitary, not really applicable to exodons
Exodons are kinda their own thing, you're gonna end up needing a pretty big school and around half are going to get eaten by eachother so budget for that.

By social and enjoy, I mean they need other fish in a group, and some will probably be killed off as weaklings, but same difference lol

Just get like atleast 4-8 in a 20 long
I don't even think he'll be active, as when you put a clown loach by himself he wouldn't show. but if you have a group they'll feel safe in numbers!
he will eventually once he gets used to the environment and learn there are no threats.. but fish are not all the same.. same with solitary Serras like Rhoms, some active some not. But I think poster wants a glass banger I dont think Exodons are like that.. and he doesn’t say what size tank.. if small is like 29g u can just get a purple wolf fish or a red wolf(maybe pushing it)

I was more or less just curious since I keep reading exo are basically mini piranha. I already have a 120 with a gold wolf. That is a definite glass banger
