I like the idea of a group 6, but I've heard they will single each other out in smaller groups than 10, don't know if it's true just something I read.

Had not heard that, but could be true. My plan is for 13 in a heavily wooded and planted 55g tank. This way any that are bullied may find refuge by hiding.

That sounds good!

I have read the "under 10" thing myself. Supposedly, they pick on the weaker/smaller fish within a smaller group of fish. Also, they should not be kept with other fish species. This is just what I read, I have no experience with these guys in any of my tanks.

how many could you keep in a 20 gallon long

Probably the same number as I'm hoping, around 12.

Just recently another member stated that he tried 10 in a 20g long and that it didn't work. He was then slammed by the so called expert(who gave this advice), just stating that he must not know how to keep his tank up instead of trying to find out why it really may have failed.

Wow...

Buddy had a 35g, 36"LX12"DX18"H (?) with fluval 303 and 12 exodons. Two years later he was down to 8.
From what I've read minimal recommendations range 6-8 exodons and no matter how large the number theres always some cannibalism.
I'm no expert, good luck with your choices.
