We've got exodons eating pellets at work :D

sounds exciting... :tropicalf

nah i think they are able to bite through a cricket, their bodies arent THAT tough... quite fragile actualy, i know exos bite through tougher things. how else would they eat scales?

yes they can.
sometimes though, the crickets fast enough to swim away and get out of the tank.....
ive done it. ;)

price depends on your location i guess...here theyre about the same price.

really?? same price??? you really payed a hundred bucks for some 10 exodons?

well no cricket would get away from my exos if i ever get some... they never get away from my oscar who takes 30 minutes to catch ONE LOL (hes got really bad aim)... he takes as long as a golfer to focus in and strike at it... after about 10 misses, he finally gets them. im picturing 10+ exodons all aiming for the same target so it should be fate-sealing for that cricket.

exodons dont bite through scales, they knock them off and swallow them.
but they do have good dentistry.
i did pay quite alot...and it was worth it.
i miss my exos.

If the cricket was small enough to fit in its mouth i'm possative it would eat it but it was a large cricket to big to fit in its mouth it may just nibble at it

i know ive said in the past how utterly boring i think exodons are based on youtube videos of them eating inanimate objects like frozen foods, bread, meats. and even more boring vids showing them stripping the scales from a guppy but leaving the guppy...

but this got me thinking (and hoping). do Exodon (bucktooth tetra) eat crickets?? as in the whole cricket? cause if they do then THAT would do it for me to want to purchase a shoal. to watch them do to a cricket what they have done to that guppy only have the cricket disappear would win me over to this monster fish...

one question though, why are they so expencive?!?!
they sell for $8.99 each at petland!!!

i have personally seen them shred feeder fish as well as eat them whole if small enough. but you cant throw in a goldfish the same size of the exos and expect something to happen. their teeth are designed to remove scales and fins, but if hungry enough they will eat just about anything.
my queston is WHY?
most live feeders arent good for them anyway, and arent a necessecary part of their captive diet.

as far as price. youre not talking about neons here. these are a fairly uncommon fish in the hobby. any time you are dealing with simething more "rare", to whatever extent. you will have to pay the price. exodons are only exported during a small period of the year, and between the times theyre exported, you pretty much have to pay WHATEVER the distributor asks for them.
ive seen them as low as $4-$5 in some places in the states, but the average price is the same as here. just around $8/ea is not a bad price. you just have to be willing to shell out the cash.

ive never seen one instance where a group of exos just nibble at anything, they go all out! i probably asked this a thousand times but don't exos shred their food that usually is bigger than it anyways??

it shouldn't be determined like a wolf fish to ponder whether or not its pray will "fit in its mouth". their not like that. 10 exos going after 1 insect should usually shred it right? insects have so many possible shred points too... long legs, soft bodies, wings, etc.

id love for some1 to try this out and feed them a cricket please! see if it disintegrates like im imagining it would. they see the cricketcrawling across the water, they all start attacking at it and first they rip off the legs and parts of the abdomen, then as the cricket sinks, they rip off the head and one exo devours it, then the group finishes the body bite by bite. nothing left but some cricket dust... all this happens in less than a minute... right??

ADD: if a video can be made please share!!

another question, how long do they live?? im kinda hoping they dont live as long as regular tetras do (1.5 years max...) thatd be awefull :(.
